Clothing Care 101
Garment care can be challenging – here are some tips to keep in mind.
Have your delicate garments dry cleaned regularly to prolong their quality. Accumulation of grease, dust particles or perspiration can greatly reduce the beauty and durability of any apparel.
Always dry clean clothing in sets or pairs, like suits, at the same time. This will ensure that any slight color change in each piece, due to cleaning, is consistent across the entire set and cannot be noticed over time.
When getting dressed, apply lotions, makeup & hair spray before putting on your clothing. The alcohols and chemicals present in these products can cause damage to your clothing, which is generally not visible until after the clothing has already been cleaned multiple times or as fabric ages.
Use high quality hangers to support your clothes. Flimsy hangers allow clothes to sag completely out of shape and may even cause irreversible damage to the shoulders of your garment.
Try to keep all of your wool garments moth-free in a dark, well-enclosed closet. Moths can eat on your wool items, especially sweaters during the hot summer season – unless these wool pieces are well-protected. If possible, fold and store your wools in cedar closets and/or cedar blocks or closed containers as deterrent.
Excessive cleaning of clothes will wear them out quickly. Some types of clothing can be worn more than once before cleaning or washing – just give them extra care while you’re wearing them. After every wear,
look for spots, tears, dirt, lint, or anything that requires the clothing to be sent for cleaning or repairing.
